about me + my journey

Speech and Drama has been a passion of mine for most of my life. As a child, I was extremely timid and reserved to an extent which concerned my parents - I wasn't able to maintain eye contact when talking to someone, I stuttered and mumbled when I was nervous, and I also had a tendency to sometimes speak far too fast for anybody to understand. Enter: Speech and Drama, and my amazing teacher Mrs Merryl Lloyd.

I began lessons with Mrs Lloyd when I was 4, and the change my parents saw in my speech and communication was immediately promising. As my confidence grew, so did my passion for performance and the art itself. I started participating in eisteddfods each year, and also completed exams under the International Music Examinations Body (IMEB) syllabus until 2019, when I completed my Associate Teachers Diploma in Speech and Drama. While completing my Diploma, I came to realise that I actually have a passion for teaching Speech and Drama as well, which was not something I had considered much before. I am currently a university student studying a double degree of Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Music at the Australian National University, teaching Speech and Drama to young students part time to indulge my passion and hopefully help kids find their voice and gain confidence in themselves, the same way I did.

about speech and drama + public speaking

At Studio M, you can enrol for lessons following either the IMEB Speech and Drama syllabus, or the IMEB Effective Public Speaking syllabus. For more details on the specific syllabi, please see the 'programme' tab.

As a teacher, my specialty regardless of which syllabus you choose lies in helping more timid, shy or nervous kids slowly come out of their shell through performance and public speaking. Having been in a similar situation myself when I was younger, I attribute my success in effective communication and speech skills almost entirely to Speech and Drama, and hope to do the same for other children. This is also enhanced by the personal nature and environment of my lessons, as I only teach 2 students per lesson.
